Fort Kearny Conference Education Scholarship

At our meeting today (KACF) we approved a Fort Kearny Conference Scholarship. A retired FKC teacher is providing funds for 10 years for $1,000 to a student attending UNK in education.

To qualify for the scholarship, a student must fit within the following charitable class:
a. Be enrolled full time (minimum 12 hours) in undergraduate study or enrolled in graduate study at the University of Nebraska – Kearney (UNK) pursing a degree in education;

b. Scholarships will be award to UNK-bound graduates of Nebraska-area high schools based on (1) financial need, (2) scholastic achievement and (3) involvement in non-academic, extra-curricular activities including community, charitable and youth group oriented activities. Preference to a female graduate.

c. Award is available for a graduating senior (with a GPA of 3.0 or higher) from any of the Ft. Kearny Conference schools, which at this time include: Amherst, Axtell, Elm Creek, Elwood, Eustis-Farnam, Loomis, Pleasanton, Overton, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller and Wilcox-Hildreth.

Selection of the scholarship recipient shall be made from qualifying applicants of the above-identified charitable class, based on the following criteria:
a. 250-word essay explaining “Why college is important for my future and how this scholarship will help?”;

b. One letter of recommendation from a current educator, and

c. Receipt of application and essay postmarked before April 1.
